Gas Logs

Bart Fireside is a certified gas log dealer / distributor for:
Monessen, Majestic, R.H. Peterson, Hargrove, Golden Blount, White Mountain Hearth, Rasmussen, Heat&Glo

Nothing is more relaxing on a cold winter day than the hypnotizing flames of a roaring fire. What isn’t relaxing is cutting wood, keeping it dry, bringing it in, fighting to get the fire started, feeding the fire, and then staying awake until midnight watching it cool so you can feel comfortable about going to bed. Whew!

Many people go without the nostalgia of a fire because of these drawbacks. Gas logs are a great alternative to wood without any of the headaches mentioned before. With gas logs, the fire can be turned on or off at will. Some units are available with remote controls or wall switches. Most sets are an excellent source of supplemental or emergency heat and require no outside electricity to operate. At Bart Fireside we offer a one-stop shop where we have live burning displays, knowledgable staff, and qualified installers. We strive to sell only made in the USA gas logs for their superior warranty and quality.

Two types of gas logs are available: Vent-free and vented (decorative). When you come to visit us, bring in a completed Spec Sheet (or submit online) so our staff can help you quickly. We are happy to assist if you have questions about completing the Spec Sheet also!

Vent Free Gas Logs

Vent free gas logs, also called ventless, or unvented gas logs, are designed to burn the fuel 99.9% completely. This means that they burn “clean”. Any byproduct of combustion is so minute that typical air turnover in the home washes it out, although home ventilation is important with any type of gas product. You can burn this appliance in your fireplace with the damper closed and allow the heat generated to warm the room, in most cases.

In order to perform safely, building codes limit vent-free appliances to 40,000 BTUs maximum. Units are required to have an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) with safety pilot control, meet emissions standards, have minimal flame impingement, and meet clearance to combustible material like wood – we will be happy to explain all of this to you.

Vent-Free Gas Log Facts
  • Your fireplace must be inspected by a certified chimney sweep before you install any gas log set
  • Vent-free gas logs are for supplemental and emergency heat only
  • Available in natural or propane gas, some models can use a remote, wall switch, thermostat remote, and other accessories
  • Combustion air is drawn from the room
  • Vent-free does not mean odor-free  (logs don’t stink, dirty fireplaces do!)
  • Vent-free appliances cannot be installed in a bedroom, bathroom, or any area considered to a “confined space”, unless  approved for such application
  • Vent-free gas logs must be installed in an approved vent-free firebox or operational wood-burning fireplace
  • Vent-free logs are placed in a fixed position when installed; they are not movable by the user
  • All models at Bart Fireside come with a safety pilot system, Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS), and lava rock for the floor of the fireplace

Vented Gas Logs (Decorative)

Nothing compares to the realism of a high quality vented gas log. All of our vented sets have high detail ceramic or refractory casting and multicolored painted logs that look like real wood. Glowing embers are the base for an active flame. Accessories like crackling embers, raised ember beds, and burner extensions are available for some sets. Even though they burn more cleanly than wood, vented decorative gas logs must be fully vented (damper completely open) and they are not sold as a heating appliance. If you are traditional wood-burner and are unwilling to sacrifice realism for convenience, vented decorative gas logs may satisfy your needs.
