No expensive brick foundations or chimneys are needed.

The Firehouse offers six different types of fireplaces, so it will be easy to find one that will satisfy your heating and asthetic needs. When you visit us, bring your building plans or room measurements and our staff will give you all the information you need to make a decision. Below are the different types of fireplaces available. Click the "Show-Me" button to see photos and specs on some of our most popular models. Again visit our showroom to see other models and see our live burning displays.

Vent-Free Gas Fireplaces

A vent-free or unvented gas fireplace is the simplest and least expensive route to having a fireplace in your home. The unit has no chimney. This allows easy room placement and design options. Many of our customers have placed televisions or bookcases in the space above a vent-free fireplace. Vent-free gas fireplaces are an excellent room heater and 99% efficient. The pros and cons of a vent-free fireplace are the same as vent-free gas logs.

Vent-Free Fireplace Facts

Direct-Vent Gas Fireplaces

A direct-vent gas fireplace has a sealed combustion chamber that prevents any combustion gases from entering the room. Also, the combustion air is drawn from the outside. This allows a direct-vent fireplace to be installed in any room, including bedrooms and baths. In homes that are very tight or occupants are sensative to room venting (vent-free), a direct-vent fireplace is the way to go.

There are very little design limitations with a direct-vent gas fireplace. They can vent horizontally to an outside wall or vertically through the roof. Also the direct-vents available at Bart Fireside - The Firehouse Casual Living Store are designed with a convection heat exchanger that makes a typical 80% efficient direct-vent fireplace more cost effective to operate than a 99% efficent vent-free fireplace because it is able to heat many rooms.

Direct-Vent Fireplace Facts
  • One of the most cost effective supplemental heat sources
  • Operates during power outages
  • More realistic flame than vent-free appliances
  • Flame behind protective glass that radiates heat
  • Options: fan kit, remote control, wall switch, wall or remote thermostat, firebrick designs, decorative faceplates
  • Combustion air drawn from outside
  • No odors
  • Direct units are available in widths from 32" to 44"
  • Greater btu's than vent-free appliances which means more heat and flame
  • All fireplaces must be installed according to manufacturer's specifications and by a certified installer.
  • Clearance to combustibles must be maintained by builder / homeowner
  • Availble in LP or Natural Gas

Natural-Vent Gas Fireplaces

Natural-vent gas fireplaces are the oldest type of gas fireplace. A typical natural-vent uses close clearance Type "B" vent pipe used for vertical termination. Although there are design limitations with the installation of a vertically terminated natural vent fireplace, the homeowner can enjoy a very realistic fire and benefit from convection heat distribution. If your home requires a very high vertical termination (over 20') and/or you're looking for the most realstic all-gas fireplace, take a look at the natural-vent fireplaces available at The Firehouse.

Natural-Vent Fireplace Facts
  • An effective supplemental heat source

  • Best all-gas application for tall vertical terminations
  • More realistic flame than vent-free and some direct-vent appliances

  • Options: fan kit, remote control, wall switch, wall or remote thermostat, firebrick designs, decorative faceplates
  • Combustion air drawn from room
  • No odors
  • Natural-vent units are available in widths from 36" to 42"
  • Greater btu's than vent-free and some direct-vent appliances
  • All fireplaces must be installed according to manufacturer's specifications and by a certified installer.
  • Clearance to combustibles must be maintained by builder / homeowner

High Efficiency-Hybrid Woodburning Fireplaces

A high-efficiency (HE) fireplace is somtimes called a hybrid fireplace. The main differences between an HE fireplace and a standard masonry or manufactured fireplace are that the combustion air to the fire can be controlled, produce more heat, and generate long burn times. Efficient!! The fire burns inside a combustion chamber behind glass doors. The combustion air enters the firebox at the top of the glass creating an air wash which means cleaner glass. The smoke passes through a catalyst or secondary combustion chamber that actually burns the smoke. The heat generated is held in the box longer which heats an air plentum that carries the heat to the room and other parts of the home.

As you can see in the diagram at the right, a high-effieciency fireplace is capable of heating an entire home. Basically it is a woodburning furnace.
